The Role of Images and Written Content in Mobile-Optimization

We’ve all had that frustrating experience of having to slide right and left in order to read something on our phones. Most of us only persevere in doing this when the thing we’re trying to read is very meaningful to us. Or else we give up after a couple of minutes.

The other frustrating thing about websites which are not mobile-optimized is that even if we do end up reading everything, we may not absorb it all because of having to stop and scroll back and forth. So the fact is that a mobile-optimized website is important, no matter what type of content you’re putting on it.

Using Images with Fewer Details

Mobile optimization is not just about getting the text to wrap around so that it fits on your phone, although this is an important part of it. It’s also about examining each and every part of your website to figure out how it will read better on a mobile phone.

For example, consider the images on your website. Certain images look better when you look at them on a computer i.e., they look better when you can see them in a bigger size. But when they are reduced to a smaller size, you can’t see all the details, so the image doesn’t look that interesting.

So in order to mobile-optimize your website, you should also choose images that will look good on a phone. And this usually means choosing an image with fewer details so that it will be visible in its entirety on a small screen.

Concise Content, Lists and Bullet Points

Yet another thing you might want to do to mobile-optimize your website is make your content more concise. This is because people don’t want to read very long pieces of content on a phone. Yes, there are folks who read entire novels on their phones. But most of the time, people prefer shorter pieces of content for which you don’t have to scroll down too much.

It also helps to use lists and bullet points as this will keep people scrolling down to get to the last one. This is one of the basic rules of SEO for any website, but it’s particularly effective if you want to mobile-optimize your site.
